Contains lecture materials, notes, and account books of Dr. Albert Smith dating from 1831-1866.
Scope:Albert Smith was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire, on June 18, 1801. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1825, and studied medicine both in Peterborough and at Dartmouth Medical College, graduating from the latter in 1833. He practiced briefly in Leominster, MS, for four years after medical school before returning to Peterborough. Dr. Smith was one of five professors on the core faculty in the middle of the 19th century, and served as the faculty secretary from 1859-1869. In addition to his teaching obligations, he had a private practice in Peterborough. He died in 1878.
Abstract: Included are various lectures given by Dr. Smith, in addition to notes on lectures by other doctors, on both disease-related topics and matters of bedside manner. Accounts and records from Dr. Smith’s medical practice are also present. Of note is the sermon given by Dr. Smith’s pastor during a mass given in memory of Dr. Smith.
