Materials in Series 5 consist of articles, clippings, correspondence, personal materials such as IRS forms and an apartment lease, military service records and forms, newsletters, newspapers, pamphlets, photographs, programs, reports and speeches. In addition, there are meeting minutes, pamphlets, discussion papers and reports from Stone's membership in the Council on Foreign Relations, and a few items, including Stone's speech, having to do with the Dartmouth College Great Issues course. Several items pertain to the internal workings of The New York Times. These materials represent a transition period in Stone's life between his wartime work and the shape of his future. Important figures include Arthur Hays Sulzberger, Hadley Cantril, Allen Dulles, Theodor Heuss, Lester Markel, and Julius O. Adler
