Description

From the Collection:

The collection contains a scrapbook with publicity material including clippings, programs, promotional literature and flyers documenting Richard E. Byrd's First Antarctic Expedition and the making and publication of the 1930 documentary film "With Byrd At The South Pole." The scrapbook was probably assembled by Paramount executive Emanuel Cohen for Paramount Pictures.

"With Byrd At The South Pole" was released in June 1930 and had its first showing...
on June 20 in Washington, DC, in the presence of Herbert Hoover. Filmed by Paramount cameramen Joseph Rucker and William van de Veer, who spent two years with Byrd, it included footage of Byrd's first flight over the South Pole. The film was named one of the 10 best films of 1930 and won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
