Description

We were en route to Vietnam from California to Vietnam in May, 1969. We landed in Hilo, Hawaii to refuel, change crews, and walk around. It was around 6.30AM pacific tiem. I called the home of Dartmouth classmate and fraternity brother Robbie Peacock (john Robert Peacock II) to say hello. Rob's mom answered the phone and told me that he was going through flight training at the Navy's base in Pensicola, Florida. On October 12, 1972, Rob was shot down over North Vietnam while flying an A-6 intruder. In 1976, ROb's status was changed from "Missing in Action" to "Died while missing"; Location: Airport, Hilo, Hawaii; photo by Jeff Hinman '68
