Description

From the Collection:

The correspondence of Carl B. Hess relates to a letter Hess sent to Dartmouth President Ernest Martin Hopkins in 1944, with thoughts of what it meant to be an alumnus ten years after graduation. Hopkins responded and the letter and the response were subsequently published in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Correspondence between Hess and Hopkins as well as Charles E. Widmayer, editor of the Alumni Magazine, and several commentaries about the published correspondence and a photocopy of it can be found here. In addition, there is correspondence between Hess and Hopkins and Paul Arthur Schilpp regarding the controversy surrounding Schilpp's position on FDR and the War.
