Description
This file contains news releases, memos, statements, and essays, documenting debates over the use of Dartmouth College's "Indian Symbol," from 1972 to 1983. Topics include the Dartmouth Alumni Council's report about the symbol and the Board of Trustees' 1974 statement about the symbol. Of note is a memo from the Native American Council at Dartmouth to the Freshman class explaining the problems with the symbol and discussing Indigenous contributions to Dartmouth.
