Jewish Quotas
Description
Contains reports, articles, clippings, mailings, and lists of sources relating to quotas on Jewish student admissions at Dartmouth College and peer institutions. The materials cover discussion of quotas before 1932 (when Dartmouth's quota went into effect), the exposure of and public response to Dartmouth's quota, changes to Jewish student enrollment in higher education, and Dartmouth's continued reckoning with antisemitism in its past. Of note is President Hopkins' 1945 letter to Herman Shumlin defending the quota, which Shumlin in turn sent to the press, causing overwhelmingly negative backlash.
