Description

Contains historical clippings related to Martin Luther King during the early 1960s including clippings about his 1962 visit to Dartmouth College, as well as an invitation to his lecture there. Photocopies of letters between Dr. King to Hugh Morrison regarding the visit are also included. Clipping related to the 1965 arrest of King and other civil rights activists as well as a 1986 commemorative issue of the magazine “American Visions” featuring King can also be found here. Of note is the transcription of the speech entitled “Toward Freedom” which King gave at Dartmouth on May 23, 1962. Clippings use the term “Negro” which was an acceptable term to use during the time the articles were written.
