Phi Delta Theta
Description
Contains programs and menus from banquets, receptions, and performances as well as lists of members, news clippings, and correspondence about the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, dating from 1889 to 2000. Of note are a program for a 1915 minstrel show featuring a song title with an anti-black slur, and news clippings from 1960 about the chapter "going local" or cutting ties with the national Phi Delta Theta organization. A 1954 student referendum required all fraternities, by 1960, to dissociate from parent organizations whose bylaws formally restricted membership to white, Christian men.
