Description

From the Collection:

The oral history interview of Richard Eberhart is comprised of three audiocassette recordings and a tape log of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Arthur Wilson on June 2 and 9, 1975 in Hanover, NH. The entire interview runs for approximately two and a half hours. Professor Eberhart describes his undergraduate experience and the role of fraternities in the student social life. He comments on the elitism of the college at that time. Eberhart speaks about his role in the English Department and the tension between scholarship and creativity as well as the changing standard of scholarship. He discusses poets at and from Dartmouth: Herb West, Richard Lattimore, Alexander Laing, Kimball Flaccus, Reul Denney, Philip Booth, William Bronk, Ramon Guthrie, and Tom Vance. Eberhart describes how he taught poetry and his disappointment at not having "produced" a poet.
