Mathew Henson news bureau photographs
Description
Two Underwood and Underwood press photographs of arctic explorer Mathew Henson at the New York Custom House. The photos were shot for stories related to the proposal by NY Congressman Emanuel Celler for a congressional medal for bravery and pension to be awarded to Henson for his role in aiding Robert Peary in his expeditions to the North pole. Accompanying the photographs are Underwood and Underwood typescript captions.
