Description

The diary of P.W. Johnson chronicles his experiences as a member of the Greely Relief Expedition of 1884. Laid in is a sheet with a fragment of a flag attached. The sheet is signed by David Brainard, a member of the Lady Franklin Bay Expedition, attesting that this was part of the flag flown when he made his attempt for the North Pole.
