Description
Three-page letter from Eli Moseley Barnum at Dartmouth College to Mr. and Mrs. Eli Starr Barnum, regarding commencement week and examinations. Says the latter part of the summer term "is usually marked by the midnight actions of students." The Bible was taken from the chapel pulpit several times, and the bell tongue removed, etc. Speaks of William Miller, religious leader and his influence on N.E. Mentions the Bankruptcy Act and the distrust and fear caused by the number of people taking advantage of it.
