New Hampshire 2nd Infantry Regiment records
Description
The collection contains chiefly equipment and personnel records. The equipment records are various inventories and reports to the Army administration on the status of the stores. Personnel records including Volunteer Descriptive Lists, Returns, Muster and Clothing Rolls. The Volunteer Descriptive Lists give brief biographical and physical descriptions of the enlisted men and details about enrollment and term of service. Returns periodically record changes in the rolls from transfers, deaths, wounded status and desertion. The Returns also tally present and absent members of the company by ranks and reason for absence. Muster Rolls provide official records of service and track the payroll; these rolls contain the most complete records of the members of Company F. Clothing Rolls record distribution of clothing-related equipment.
The collection also contains some personal papers of First Lieutenant James H. Baker and a petition from officers of the First Massachusetts Regiment of Massachusetts Militia requesting that Brigadier General Robert Cowdin be restores to their Regiment.
