Two-page letter from Daniel Webster in Washington, DC to Thomas Ewing, recommending James Morse for an appointment under the Census Act. He was employed as a clerk in the Department of State in 1842, and then was assigned the important duty of preparing a report on the commercial relations of the US with foreign nations.
