Two-page letter from Thomas Abbot Merrill in Middlebury to Edwin David Sanborn, telling him that Samuel Swift is the only member of the Dartmouth P.B.K. living in the writer's country. Writer is sending money for the P.B.K. catalogue. Webster did not show great promise his first years in college and was extraordinary on belles lettres and extemporaneous speaking only.
