Child family papers
Description
The Child family papers consist of correspondence, legal and business papers, diaries, genealogical information including family bibles and account books of the family beginning in the 18th century with Jonathan Child and his son William, and ending in the middle of the 20th century. The papers document the family's life on their farm known as Lily Pond Stock Farm in Thetford, Vermont, including a dispute with the Boston and Maine Railroad regarding title to timber along its right of way through the farm. Personal correspondence includes letters from friends and family who settled in the mid West in the decades following the Civil War, including letters from Mary E. Ainslie, wife of a home missionary in Minnesota, describing her work with Scandinavian immigrants.
