Description

Letters from Austin L. Whipple, describing experiences with 1st New England Cavalry, as Orderly under General David Birney, in Libby prison and in the hospital at Annapolis. One letter by Joseph Garrison of 25th New York Volunteers, describing Whipple's imprisonment. Two letters by Caroline H. Leverett who attended Whipple in hospital. Includes letter from William A. Whipple presenting letters to Mather Cleveland, and newspaper clipping announcing A.L. Whipple's death accompany collection.
