Description
Timothy H. Brooks, Class of 1964, oral history interview for the Dartmouth Vietnam Project. Brooks grew up in Hampton, New Hampshire. At Dartmouth, he was part of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and was involved in the WDCR radio station, where he served as Record Librarian and ultimately Administrative Director. After graduating in 1964, Brooks was called into active duty and assigned to the 518th Signal Company, which operated the microwave communications. Initially trained at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Brooks was sent to Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon, Vietnam and then later assigned to Binh Long Helicopter Base as Detachment Commander. While serving in Vietnam, Brooks connected with Alan R. McKee, Class of 1964, who was the assistant station manager at the armed forces radio station in Saigon. Brooks ran a Sunday morning radio show in Vietnam for a short time. He went on to have a career in radio and television.
