Donald Bross oral history interview
Description
Dr. Donald C. Bross. Class of 1964. Oral history interview for the Dartmouth Vietnam Project. Bross grew up in Denver, Colorado, and had a close relationship with his forward-thinking mother. During high school and at Dartmouth, he was part of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). Bross lived in Russell Sage Hall, and he observed the frat system and socio-economic differences on campus. He spent a summer with Navy ROTC in Florida, where he gained flying experience. Additionally, he studied abroad in Peru, which, along with his upbringing in Colorado, Dartmouth student experience, participation in President Kennedy’s People to People Student Ambassador Program Alliance for Progress in Latin America, and early military service, shaped his unique perspective as an enlisted officer. Bross candidly recalls his time on a Swift boat in Vietnam and the loss of his friend, William B. Nickerson, from the Class of 1964, who died during the conflict.
