Ira Barton papers
Description
The collection contains professional and personal correspondence of Ira M. Barton as well quartermaster reports, store records, fort orders, legal documents and other military papers. The collection documents the work of Barton in his time as Captain of Co. E of the NH 5th Volunteers and later as Lt. Col. of the 1st. Regiment of New Hampshire Heavy Artillery. Also includes correspondence with J.P. Hale, J.W. Patterson, Gilman Marston and a letter from T.W. Higginson agreeing to lecture in Newport, N.H. in 1861. Family correspondence is largely from his father Levi Barton.
