Description

The papers of Henry and Laura Blood contain correspondence, financial documents including receipts, bills, and account statments as well as deeds and other legal documents. The material documents the extensive business dealings of the family, much of it in land speculation, across five states, Tennessee, Texas, New York, Kansas, Vermont and Minnesota. Much of the business correspondence is between Henry Blood and his managers, in particular with Adrian Van Sinderen (A.V.S.) Lindsley in Nashville, Tennessee. A small amount of family and personal correspondence is also included. Of note is material related to the hiring, buying and selling of enslaved people. Box 1 contains an itemized listing of the majority of correspondence in this collection with letters refering to enslaved people highlighted.
