Description

The papers of the Armes family contain correspondence, typescripts, calendars, a diary and drafts of speeches and statements. The material primarily focuses on Henry Lyman Armes and his his career in the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, 1954-1959. It includes an autobiographical sketch, drafts of letters, statements, and speeches written for Sinclair Weeks, Secretary of Commerce, and Carl F. Oechsle, Assistant Secretary of Commerce, as well as drafts of statements by President Eisenhower, submitted for Armes comment, clippings, and material related to his grandfather Josiah L. Armes, his father Azra Herbert Armes and his aunt Clara A. Armes. Correpondence and advertising material on rust-proofing and correspondence relating to Dartmouth College Class of 1912 are also included.
