Description

Oral history interview with Lon Cross, Dartmouth Class of 1975, about his experiences during the Vietnam War era. Cross recounts his early life growing up in Independence, Missouri, in a military family. He discusses his time at Dartmouth, majoring in history and serving as class president, and notes varying student attitudes towards the Vietnam War. Cross describes his military service post-Dartmouth, joining the Missouri National Guard, later transferring to the regular Army to become an Army Ranger. He describes his stressful deployment to Korea's demilitarized zone (DMZ), subsequent high-risk assignments, and the challenges of transitioning to civilian life with undiagnosed PTSD.
