Description

This M. Frederick Mount collection consists of approximately 400 different photographs of the expeditions sent in 1904 and 1905 to relieve the Fiala-Ziegler expedition which was stranded in Franz Josef Land. Many men are pictured on the rescue ship "Terra Nova," and on shore during the rescue, but only two are identified, Anthony Fiala and William S. Champ. A few are of the "Frithjof," used in the unsuccessful relief attempt in 1904.
