Description
Fred Berthold, Dartmouth College Class of 1945, Professor of Religion, and Dean of the Tucker Foundation. Oral history interview documenting Berthold’s extended tenure at Dartmouth, beginning with his undergraduate days, religious education, and early career as a faculty member in the Department of Religion. The interview then turns to the establishing of the Tucker Foundation, its programming and role on campus, and Berthold’s services as the foundation’s first dean. Finally, Berthold comments on his experiences at Dartmouth under four presidents – Ernest Hopkins, John Dickey, John Kemeny, and David McLaughlin – with special emphasis placed on the key issues of the Kemeny and McLaughlin administrations. Interviewed by Jane L. Carroll on two occasions during Mary 1998 in Hanover, N.H.
