School Record of District No.12 [Hanover, NH], Record Book
Description
Manuscript notebook with minutes of meetings usually held at the district’s schoolhouse, comprised of regular elections of school committees, moderators, and clerks; appropriation of specified amounts of money for winter and summer classes. The late 1840’s saw the election of a building committee to purchase land and raise a new schoolhouse – for which the contract was sold by auction to a named builder for a specified sum. In 1850 District #12 hired its first female teacher, who received 56 “cents” for 3 days work. The meetings were held every March and October from March 7, 1826 – October 11, 1837; March only, from March 13, 1838 – March 18, 1847 and thereafter on irregular intervals from October 1, 1847 – March 13, 1868.
