Description
Contains holograph manuscripts of three of May's children's stories, including "Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer" (Montgomery Ward, 1939) "Winking Willie" (Maxton, 1948) and "Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer Shines Again" (Maxton, 1954). Also included are book layouts, Denver Gillen's color separated illustrations for Rudolph, and a mounted "Life" magazine cover from January, 9, 1950. Box two contains Robert May's scrapbook related to the publication of Rudolph. The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, Montgomery Ward advertisements and fan letters. In addition there are six boxes with the original metal printing plates of "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" for the Montgomery Ward catalogue and a 1976 letter from May to Charles Norton describing the copyright and publishing history of Rudolph.
