Description

The collection contains a diary from the 1896 Peary Greenland Expedition with Putnam's account of his surveying activities. The diary is accompanied by a photographic album of the Greenland expedition as well as two coastal surveying trips to Alaska in 1897 and 1898. The Diary was largely recorded at Umanak, Greenland where Putnam carried out his observations. The photographic album contains images from the Greenland expedition as well as an 1897 surveying trip to the Pribilof Islands in Alaska and an 1898 surveying trip to the Yukon River Delta. (Preservation use copies included.)
