Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad construction account book
Description
Account book with copies of contracts, specifications and duties of the engineer of the Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad, compiled by Warren H. Smith (1817-1909). Blank pages have been subsequently used as a copy book and diary. The Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad was chartered in 1844. Construction of the main line began in Concord in 1846. The tracks were completed to Laconia in 1848, to Ashland in 1849, and to Wells River, Vermont in 1853. In 1889, it merged with the Concord Railroad and both were taken over by Boston and Main Railroad in 1895.
