Includes visit to Washington DC, description of people visiting, thoughts on books read, mentions of notables such as Father Theobald Mathew (1790-1856) and Mademoiselle Apolonia Jagella. Mentions seing Daniel Webster (p. 19) and death of Henry Clay (1777-1852). On return to her native New England, she describes the changes that have occured in her absence.
