Description

Journal of Adaline M. Swasey chronicling her daily activities while being a teacher in Greenwood, Prince George's County, Maryland in 1849. Includes visit to Washington DC, description of people visiting, thoughts on books read, mentions of notables such as Father Theobald Mathew (1790-1856) and Mademoiselle Apolonia Jagella. Mentions seing Daniel Webster (p. 19) and death of Henry Clay (1777-1852). On return to her native New England, she describes the changes that have occured in her absence.
