Description

Manuscript notebook of Thomas Chadbourne (1790-1864) containing recipes, often with detailed proportions and dosage, to be used in curing various diseases, including cholera, dropsy and diabetes. Some remedies are attributed to specific physicians including a recipe for Bitters used by his father William Chabourne of North Conway, NH and his mentors at Dartmouth College, Cyrus Perkins and Nathan Smith. A remedy for the treatment of Dysentaria is attributed to the Oneida Indians. Other remedies include a formula for Kittridge Nerve Ointment and for a Bone Ointment. A few common household recipes for Pancakes, Molasses Cake, Molasses Gingerbread and Tea Cakes are also included.
