George E. Fellows negative collection
Description
The collection features more than a thousand glass-plate and celluloid negatives (with corresponding prints) bearing images of the Upper Connecticut River Valley and environs from the early 20th century. Images taken in both New Hampshire and Vermont picture life in the towns and villages of the Upper Valley, as well as New England architecture and countrysides. Towns represented include Canaan, Charlestown, Enfield, Lyme, Lyme Center, Meriden, Orford, Piermont, and West Lebanon in New Hampshire and Ascutney, Bradford, East Thetford, Fairlee, Hartford, Hartland, Hartland Four Corners, North Hartland, North Thetford, Norwich, Pompanoosuc, Post Mills, Quechee, Rochester/Hancock/Granville area, Royalton, South Royalton, Sharon, South Woodstock, Strafford, Thetford, Thetford Center, Thetford Hill, Union Village, West Fairlee, White River Junction, Wilder, and Woodstock in Vermont. There is also a small group of images taken in New York City and Washington D.C. Nearly all the negatives are gelatin dry (glass) plates.
