Abstract
The Office of Treasurer was established in the Charter of Dartmouth College, 13 December 1769. Eleazar Wheelock was the first person to hold this office, with records commencing in 1773, although some financial records held in this collection relate to Moors Indian Charity School and predate the founding of the College. Dartmouth College Treasurer records consist of cash books, ledgers, receipts, vouchers, investments, bills, fund and endowment registers, reports, and correspondence documenting the collection of tuition, management of investment properties, awarding of scholarships, financing the construction and maintenance the physical plant, paying salaries, recording gifts, budgets, and other financial activities and functions of the College. The collection also contains some records of other College officers with financial responsibilities, like the bursar, the auditor, the assistant treasurer, and the business manager.
