Milo Jewett papers
Description
The papers of Milo Parker Jewett contain twenty-five letters, three documents regarding the conception and inception of Vassar Female College, one inquiry involving the scope and aims of the college, one educational certificate, and a tribute to women. With the exclusion of one pivotal personal letter to Jewett's parents, they trace his professional correspondence, primarily with Matthew Vassar, Matthew Vassar, Jr., and Samuel Sterling Sherman surrounding the creation and incorporation of Vassar Female College. While most of the content is business-oriented, however, there is substantial discussion of the political and financial climate to be found in these letters. The essays on the making of plans for Vassar Female College tell much of Milo Parker Jewett's moral and professional character.
