George Washington collection
Description
The collection contains primarily original letters written by or sent to George Washington. The collection also holds several land surveys either completed by Washington or conducted on Washington's behalf. Additionally, of note is an early (1745) mathematical exercise attributed to a 13 year old Washington as well as Washington’s Valley Forge proclamation concerning provisioning the troops with cattle. Also included are 15 letters to James McHenry, Secretary of War.
