Bill of complaint in the case of Ogden vs. Gibbons to James Kent in Albany, New York.Jos.Ogden Hoffman, solicitor, David B. Ogden, counsel. John Fitch had had sole rights to the invention and use of steampowered boats, but these were given to R.R. Livingston and Robert Fulton. They granted rights to J.R. Livingston and Ogden. Thomas Gibbons is violating those rights. Enclosure: I.L. Kiss order of writ against Thomas Gibbons, October 21, 1818, Albany.
