Description
The papers of William Kimball Flaccus contain correspondence, clippings, articles, book manuscripts, poems, photographs, book reviews, newspapers, scrapbooks, posters and research material related to his career as a poet and scholar. The unpublished manuscript of his book on Edgar Lee Masters entitled "Edgar Lee Masters: The Formative Years" and his Ph.D. thesis on Masters are also included. Some material related to his service in Alaska during World War II is also included. Of note is his correspondence with other poets and writers of his time including T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, Archibald McLeish and John Wheelock Hall, as well as extensive correspondence from the artist Violetta Raditz, his future wife, while he was a student. There are also a large number of letters Flaccus wrote to his parents over the course of thirty years.
