The collection contains essays and other compositions by Dartmouth College students, many probably written for but not presented at Commencement exercises; arranged alphabetically by author.

Records include correspondence, forms , printed materials and newspaper clippings. Also includes copies of the Strike Newsletter.

The collection includes sixteen exercise books with surveying problems. The exercise books belonged to Dartmouth College students, who were required to take the course in surveying, although they were not members of the Chandler Scientific Department. Also includes oversized ink survey exercise of Charles Hosford, Class of 1859.
