Biography

Although film as been a part of the Dartmouth curriculum since the early 20th century, the Film Studies Program was not created until 1972, with the arrival of two professors dedicated to instruction in film. The coursework was associated with the Drama Department, and in 1988 the department became Drama and FIlm Studies. In 1999, Film and Television Studies became its own department, with a subsequent name change to Film and Media Studies in 2008.

Scope and Contents The collection contains audio cassettes of lectures on film, covering speakers on specific films, as well as lectures in classes. In addition there are records related to the Dartmouth Film Society, the origins of the department, including the Office of Instructional Services and Educational Research (OISER), as well as teaching and courses.
