Hanover Water Works Company

Biography

The Hanover Water Works company began because two disastrous fires in the 1880s raised awareness for the need of fire protection for the College and town. The company was organized on August 1, 1893 and it issued stock which was held jointly by the College and the town. The company had purchased over 1200 acres of the watershed by 1912 and added an additional reservoir by 1924 and a third in 1962.
