Biography

The Dartmouth LGBTQIA+ Alum Association (DGALA) strives to foster community between and among the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, and other alumns of the College by furthering the intellectual, social, cultural and educational well-being of LGBTQIA+ alums and students and providing the College and the greater College community with active support in matters of mutual concern. DGALA also aims to enhance the experience of LGBTQIA+ persons at Dartmouth and support the College’s commitment to diversity by fostering communications between and among LGBTQIA+ alums and students, faculty, staff, administrators, the other affiliated groups and the College community as a whole.

From the 1980s until 2003, DGALA was known as the Dartmouth Gay and Lesbian Alumni/ae Association or D-GALA. From 2003 until 2018, it was known as the Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni/ae Association. The name was changed in 2018 to be inclusive of more identities.

Scope and Contents Most of the collection comprises materials by Charles Edwards documenting his work with DGALA. Includes membership materials, constitution, correspondence, publications, financial records, press releases and photographs.
