Dartmouth LGBTQIA+ Alum Association (DGALA) records May Be Restricted
Description
Most of the collection comprises materials by Charles Edwards documenting his work with DGALA. Includes membership materials, constitution, correspondence, publications, financial records, press releases and photographs. Of note is correspondence regarding the Ivy/Seven Sisters GALA Network, the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and NetGALA. Also contains documentation of the North East Lesbian and Gay Student Union Conference, the Pride Parade, and two political debates spearheaded by DGALA: their fight to be recognized by Dartmouth Alumni Affairs, and their campaign to dissolve Dartmouth’s ROTC program due to military attitudes toward homosexuality.
From the 1980s until 2003, DGALA was known as the Dartmouth Gay and Lesbian Alumni/ae Association or D-GALA. From 2003 until 2018, it was known as the Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni/ae Association. The name was changed in 2018 to be inclusive of more identities.
