Three-page letter from Jonathan Smith Ross at Windmill Point, Aquia, Virginia to Seraphina H. Putnam (Ross) Jackman, describing the poor condition of the camp hospitals which has not enough fuel and blankets. The men are dispirited and weakened by not being furnished with the proper food. Wants Mr. Jackman to visit him if he is in Washington. Fancies what a visit from his father would be like.

Letter from Jonathan Smith Ross in Chancellorsville, Virgina to Seraphine H. Putnam (Ross) Jackman, telling her that there has been awful fighting and a great many men were killed and wounded, many officers, including Sam Hutchins. He has been operating steadily for more than 40 hours and is so tired he cannot sleep.
