Three-page letter from John Richards in Hanover, New Hampshire to Increase Niles Tarbox, relating details of the Lewis Lawton case in which the church beneficiaries had put Lawton, a Dartmouth student, on probation for not attending prayer meetings, his poor choice of companions, and his indulgence in card playing. Wants to know if the Rev. Tarbox plans to attend the American Education Society anniversary meeting in Pittsfield.

Two-page letter from John Richards at Dartmouth College to Andrew Mack in which Richards is asking about the papers of Dr. Cogswell, files of letters, etc. He wants the catalogues given to the Library: "The letters I wish to inspect...Prof. Young says he gave Prof. Adams' file of broadsheets to Dr. C. on the express condition that when he had used them they were to be deposited in the Library."
