Biography
Marshall Perkins, the son of James and Annie (French) Perkins, was born in Croydon, New Hampshire, on May 13, 1823. He was educated in the common schools and later at Dartmouth. He went on to study medicine and graduate from Cambridge Medical College. He moved to Marlow, New Hampshire where he worked as a physician and was an active member in his community and in the Republican party. Commissioned an officer in Company S, New Hampshire 14th Infantry Regiment on 24 Sep 1862.Mustered out on 08 Jul 1865 at Savannah, GA.

Four-page letter from Marshall Perkins in Augusta, Georgia to Daniel Perkins in Croyden, New Hampshire, in which he describes escorting Jefferson Davis through Augusta on his way to prison in Washington and his duties as well as economic conditions in Georgia, following the collapse of the Confederate government. (photocopy). Includes a letter from Ver Lynn Sprague to Mather Cleveland in the Perkins family papers accompanies this letter.
