Biography
William S. Leonard was born in Dublin, NH on October 13, 1832. He was prepared for college at Phillips Exeter Academy and entered Dartmouth Colle in 1852. He received his A.B. in 1856 after which he studied medicine with Dr. Albert Smith of Peterborough, New Hampshire and received his medical diploma from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1860. In October of that year he moved to Hinsdale, New Hampshire and joined the medical practice of Dr. Frederick Boydon, whose office he took over after Boyden's death in 1870. In 1861, he married Martha Elmira Greenwood. Dr. Leonard was a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society and was twice chosen as delegate to Dartmouth Medical School. In 1887, he delivered the annual address a the school's Commencement. He served many years on the Hinsdale Board of Education ad instrumental in the founding and growth of Hinsdale Public Library. In 1897 he was appointed a member of the Board of Examining Surgeons at Keene by the Commissioner of Pensions. Dr. Leonard died on June 14, 1902 after a brief illness.
