Description
The correspondence of William Leonard Smith contain letters from his father Rev. Levi Woodbury Smith, his mother, his fiance Martha "Mattie" Smith and various extended family members and friends. Some letters from his uncle and medical preceptor Dr. Albert Smith are also included. Addressed to Smith while he was an undergraduate student at Dartmouth College (Class of 1856) and medical student (Class of 1860), the letters offer a look at life in mid 19th century, New Hampshire with all manner of news about students, education, social life, dances, town news, friends and family.
