John Munro was an engineer on the "Karluk," the flagship of the Canadian Arctic Expedition which was caught in Arctic ice, stranding its passengers on Wrangel Island.

Scope and Contents The papers of John Munro contain a diary, covering the period March 16-Sept. 11, 1914, in which John Munro describes his experiences as a survivor of the wreck of the "Karluk" stranded on Wrangel Island. Collection also includes two letters from R. A. Bartlett, captain of the "Karluk," to Munro and a list of supplies. One letter states that Munro will be in charge of the camp on Wrangel Island while Bartlett leaves the island in an attempt to get word of the shipwreck to the authorities. ...
