Pressey, William Benfield, 1894-1982



W. Benfield Pressey was born on June 23, 1894 in Ashton, RI. He graduated from Trinity College in 1915 and was hired by Dartmouth College as a member of the English Department in 1919. He served as chairman of the department from 1935-1938 and in 1961 retired as the Willard Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory Emeritus. W. Benfield Pressey died in Hanover, NH in 1982.

Scope and Contents The oral history interview of W. Benfield Pressey is comprised of two audiocassette recordings and a tape log of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Arthur M. Wilson on Nov. 5, 1974 in Hanover, NH. The entire interview runs for approximately one and a half hours.
